Children
at 20 public elementary schools in Waterloo and Cedar Falls will
be safer on their playgrounds this fall, thanks to a donation of
playground supervision kits from Allen Health System.
During National Playground Safety Week in April, children at McKinstry
Elementary in Waterloo joined Allen Health System President and
CEO Rick Seidler as he presented a kit to Principal Brian Ortman
with help from Dr. Donna Thompson, Director of UNI’s National
Program for Playground Safety (NPPS).
“We don’t want to see children in our emergency room
because of playground injuries,” Seidler explains. “These
kits will help reduce that probability.”
The NPPS-designed kit includes a training manual outlining the ABCs
of safe supervision, a video which demonstrates proper supervision
techniques and a supervision safety pack.
